Some rigs allow hot-swapping fans, but always power down if the design requires internal access.

Immersion Cooling Basics

Immersion cooling submerges hardware in a thermally conductive, dielectric fluid that does not conduct electricity. The liquid absorbs heat directly from chips and boards, eliminating the need for air coolers and removing dust from the equation entirely. This method delivers extremely consistent temperatures and reduces noise to near silence. However, it requires sealed tanks, pumps, radiators, and fluid monitoring. The upfront cost is significant, but for dense operations in warm climates, the long-term thermal stability can be worthwhile.

Setting a Maintenance Schedule

Consistency beats intensity. A practical schedule might include a weekly visual inspection for dust buildup and fan errors, a monthly compressed air cleaning, a quarterly check of thermal interfaces, and an annual deep teardown of each machine. Log every service date, temperatures observed, and any parts replaced. These records reveal patterns and help you anticipate problems before they cause downtime.

Learn to read the early indicators of trouble:
